Good to know:
A gantry crane is a lifting device with a gate-like frame ("gantry") that moves heavy loads on rails. It consists of a crane bridge that is positioned on two crane supports and a crane trolley that travels on it. Gantry cranes can move loads weighing up to several hundred tons.
Types of gantry cranes:
- Full gantry crane: both crane columns run on the ground (e.g., container gantry crane)
- Semi-gantry crane: one crane column runs on a floor rail, the other on an elevated crane track (e.g., on a hall wall)
- Indoor gantry crane: runs on a floor rail inside a hall and operates at ground level
A gantry crane is used when heavy loads need to be moved across a defined area—especially outdoors, in storage areas, or on extensive industrial sites.
